Approach to Turner's Gap

The 1st Union Corps lead by the 1st Division begin the advance to Turner's Gap. The 1st Division is spread across the front. The heavy woods channel the attack lanes. All funnel toward the gap. We see several regiments holding the gap. Third division arrives on are right. General Hooker (1st Corps commander) decides to make a two pronged attack hoping to collapse one flank or the other.

Union Left Flank

The Union Right Flank



The third division advanced on the right. The Sharpshooters lead the way. The limited artillery traveled with the 3rd division. Three confederate regiments hold the left flank along with one artillery battery.



The Attack on Confederate Left Flank



The third tries to make a frontal assault with on brigade unfortunately do it piecemeal and are cut to pieces. The other two brigades wing right to try to flank the position. The sharpshooters and cannon take deadly aim from a ridge firing on the ocnfederates holding the stonewall. The Union line follows up and shoots with some effect. The Union regiments try to pin the confederates. The Confederates fall back before being outflanked.

1st Division Attacks to the Center

The first division moves to the center to try to link up the right flank and to pierce the confederate center. The Confederates receive reinforcements in the center just as 1st division makes it the edge the of the woods. A fire fight breaks out as he SS MN ranges in on Confedeates regiments. Confederates pull in 2 battiers. The SS are charged and ar routed. The Conferate regiment is then thrown back. A Union column charges the partial flank of a line and routes the conferates and throws the next regiment back. The 3rd brigade in 1st division links to 3rd Division. A small hole has developed in the Confederate line. Finally we receive reinforcements. The Iron Brigade has finally arrived and begins a march on the extreme left. As the brigade advances and gets close to confederate batterieis unlimber and open up routing one regiment. The regiment rallies and trails the other 3 regiments.
